A referral is not needed to see a specialist.

A Medigap plan along with a prescription drug plan could give you more complete and adequate coverage.
Your plan cannot be canceled and coverage is guaranteed for life.
Medicare HMO
Medicare HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plans are a type of Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare HMO plan members may be required to choose a primary care provider (PCP) from the plan network of PCPs. The PCP provides general medical care, helps coordinate the plan members health care needs and provides referrals to specialists.
Medicare HMO plans may charge a monthly premium and a deductible, however, these costs typically are low – even $0 costs in some cases. Members may pay a copayment for covered health care services, after meeting any deductible that may exist.
A Medicare HMO plan usually does not cover care received from providers outside the network except in case of an emergency.
Medicare PPO
Medicare PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans are a type of Medicare Advantage plan.
Medicare PPO plans have a provider network. These plans offer coverage in-network and out-of-network care. Also, PPO members are able to see specialists without a referral.
Some Medicare PPO plans charge a monthly premium and may have a deductible. Members typically have copayments for covered health care services, after meeting a deductible.
Medicare PPO plans cover out-of-network care, however, plan members are likely to pay more out-of-pocket than for the same service from an in-network provider.
